Addressed:
Earl of PeterbrowParis. October the 24:th 1712.My Lord.
I have the favour of Your Lordships Letter to Lord
Dartmouth of the 8:th brought to me by the Courier, who
went on to Utrecht, I shal send it forward to England by a
Meſsenger whom I shal dispatch thither to morrow, thanking
you in the mean time moſt humbly for the Communication
of it. I have no Cypher from England by which I can write
to You, thô I expect that Mystical Engin by next Poſt. So
I go on to tell your Lordship, let who so please break open
the Letter, that the Duke of Argyle parted from hence two
Days since for Port Mahon by way of Toulon, in order
to get the Imperialists out of Catalonia, to which if they
will civily consent, Her Majesty has given her Orders to S:r
John Jennings to transport them safely & quietly into
Italy. The Question upon this will be I hope soon determined,
that His Imperial Majesty will not leave his Wife and his
Army in a strange Country when he has so fair an op
portunity of getting them both away. As to their behavior
when You have them on your side, I hope the Gen:ll Peace
will be so advanced that nothing will be apprehended
from them in this point, the Power & Ability of that
Prince at whoſe Court You are is absolutely to be relyed
upon, and without any Suspition of Flattery I may add
my own Private thought, that I am very glad Her
Majesty has at this Crisis of time a Minister capable of
advising the Courts of Savoy France & Great Britain
how theſe Guests may be best disposed of.
I am with
great respect
My Lord, &ta
I can tell Your Lord:p
now what I am, Her Maj:tys
Plenipotentiary, but as to
appointments, Payments, &
the Trifles that Support
Life, This Deponent says
not.
