    My Lords.1

    I hold it my Duty to inform Your Excellencys that
    I arrived here last Night, and am this Morning going to
    Versailles. My Lord Strafford will have informed Lord Privy
    Seal of the orders with which I am charged and Your
    Excellencies will, I hope, send me as soon as poſsible, and
    in a particular manner the State of the Negociation be­
    tween Us and the French Nation, in regard to the Limits of
    Newfoundland and to the heads of Commerce, that I may
    aſsist accordingly at this Court; towards the forming of that
    Treaty here which I hope your Excellencies will happily
    and soon compleat at Utrecht. I expect daily to hear that
    Lord Strafford has found our Friends the States sensible of
    the Queens goodneſs to them and willing to enter into the
    measures proposed by Her Majesty towards the contentm:t
    of all Parties on that side, which is the only method of
    making the whole Negociation easy; I expect the Duke
    of Shrewsbury here in a Week and against his coming
    would very gladly have Your Excellency's Directions which
    shal be always obeyed with great respect by
